Ajax made almost €50m profit last season, due to Europa League
Amsterdam football club Ajax, the only listed football club in the Netherlands, made net profit of €49.5m last year, the club said in a statement.
Turnover reached a record €118.2m, largely due to the club’s performance in reaching the final of the Europa League competition. The sale of players, including Jasper Cillessen to Barcelona and Davy Klassen to Everton, also generated €78.6m, the club said.
Ajax expects to make an operating loss this year after failing to qualify for any European competition. However, the sale of Davinson Sánchez to Tottenham Hotspur for some €40m will keep the club in the black this season, the Telegraaf reported.
