Greece surges in popularity as a Dutch holiday destination
Some 70% of people in the Netherlands are planning to go away on holiday this summer, a rise of 3% on last year, according to a new report by the NBTC-Nipo Research.
Almost eight million of the 11 million who plan to go away are heading abroad. France remains the most popular destination for foreign holidays, followed by Spain.
The big gainer this year is Greece. Travel firms expect a 50% rise in the number of Dutch tourists heading for the Greek mainland and islands this year as people shrug off their fears about refugees. Bookings to Turkey, however, have plunged 39%.
Almost three million people will holiday at home, mainly in a holiday house or on a campsite.
