A sunny future: hotel, café and restaurant sector sales rise
Hotels, restaurants, snackbars and cafés sold more food, drink and overnight stays in the first quarter of 2017 compared to the final three months of 2016, the national statistics office CBS said on Wednesday.
The hospitality sector’s sales have risen each quarter for the past four years, the agency added. The first quarter 2017 rise was 3%.
Revenues from hotels were 4.5% higher than the final quarter of 2016, the largest increase in nearly four years. Turnover in restaurants was up 4.2%, while volume seasonally adjusted gained 3.7%, the CBS said.
On an annual basis, catering sector sales rose by nearly 8% over the first three months of 2016.
