Anger in Ghent over Wilders’ shopping trip security bill
Councillors in the Belgian city of Ghent are furious at having to pick up a €13,500 bill following a shopping trip by PVV leader Geert Wilders and his wife, RTL said on Thursday.
The trip, on March 18, involved at least 57 police and security officials and went ahead even though the council recommended against it because there was not enough time to produce a proper risk analysis.
Ghent’s local Christian Democrat leader Veli Yüksel told paper Het Laaste Nieuws that the bill should be passed to the Netherlands. ‘Why should the Ghent taxpaper have to pick up the bill for a private visit,’ he is quoted as saying.
