Nuon to build solar farms next to its wind turbines
Energy company Nuon is planning to build large solar farms alongside its wind farm projects.
It will be the first time the two alternative energy sources have been combined at the same location in the Netherlands, broadcaster NOS said.
‘There is usually no sun when there is a lot of wind and vice versa,’ development chief Margit Deimel, told NOS. ‘The wind farms already have a direct connection to the electricity grid and the solar farms can make use of that too.’
So far Nuon has plans for six solar farms with a total of 250,000 solar panels. The total capacity is put at 70 megawatts, or enough to power 10,000 households.
Deimel said that there is not much local opposition to the procedures. ‘We already know the land owners and the local officials, and we are planning to let locals benefit as well,’ she said.
