King invites fellow April babies to 50th birthday dinner at palace

February 20, 2017

King Willem-Alexander will mark his 50th birthday by inviting 150 people who were born on the same day as him to dinner.

Anyone who reaches an age ending in five or zero on April 27th can apply for an invitation by March 3, the royal family announced on its website. Queen Maxima will also be at the dinner on April 28th in the Palace on Dam Square in Amsterdam.

The palace will be open for free to the public for 50 hours, from 10pm on April 28th until midnight on April 30th.

In the Netherlands people who reach their 50th birthday are said to have ‘seen Abraham’, referring to the biblical patriarch, and friends and relatives often place giant Abraham figures or blow-up dolls in front of their houses. It is not known if any such plans have been made for the king.
