No increase in Dutch terror threat level, says counter-terrorism unit
The terrorist threat risk in the Netherlands remains ‘substantial’ and will not be increased following Monday evening’s attack on a Christmas market in Berlin, the Dutch counter-terrorism unit NCTV has told broadcaster NOS.
Nevertheless, security at the various Christmas markets in the Netherlands will be reassessed in light of the Berlin attack which left 12 people dead and dozens injured, the NCTV said.
The organisation asked local councils several weeks ago to look into Christmas market security because of terror threats in France and Germany, NOS reported.
The terror threat in the Netherlands is currently at level four, the second highest possible.
