Dutch composer builds grand piano with 30,000 lego pieces
A Dutch composer and pianist from Pernis, near Rotterdam, has build a grand piano using 30,000 pieces of lego.
Jeroen van Veen, 47, who describes himself as a ‘lego freak’ took 2.5 years to build the piano after discussing with his children if it would be possible. ‘It is a hobby which got a bit out of hand,’ he told tv show Hart van Nederland.
The instrument has been built with second-hand pieces gathered from all over the world and Van Veen is particularly pleased with the technique he discovered to build the curved sides.
The piano, which has ‘strings’ made of yellow pieces, does not actually play and the music is made by the digital keyboard which has been incorporated into the design.
Van Veen will give his first public performance on the piano in Almere on Friday night.
