Dutch fisherman worried about Brexit, may lose access to British waters
Dutch trawler operators are concerned that they will be stopped from fishing in British waters once Britain leaves the EU.
More than half of the Dutch fleet’s catch is made in British waters and many Dutch boats are actually registered at British ports.
‘There are few sectors where the impact of the Brexit is likely to be so severe as in fishing,’ Dutch fishing organisations say in a joint letter. ‘It is likely to be an extremely complicated situation,’ Alex Oude Elferink, head of the Dutch sea rights institute said.
