State pension age set to rise again: Volkskrant

The age at which people can start claiming a state pension (AOW) is set to go up to 67 and three months in 2022, the Volkskrant said on Monday.
The paper bases its claim on new life expectancy figures drawn up by the national statistics office CBS.
New pension rules, which came into effect in 2012, state that the pension age will rise by three months if life expectancy goes up. The system is based on a person claiming state pension for an average of 18 years after retirement.
The paper says this is the first time that the pension age will be increased automatically. According to the Telegraaf, junior social affairs minister Jetta Klijnsma later confirmed that pensions will go up.
The pension age is likely to be a hot topic in March general election campaign, the Volkskrant points out. The issue has already been highlighted by the Socialists, Labour party, PVV and 50Plus. In particular, the PVV and 50Plus want to cut the official retirement age back to 65.
