Tour operators cancel flights to Turkey (update)
Tour operators who sent thousands of holidaymakers to Turkey said they were monitoring the situation carefully following the attempted military coup on Friday evening.
There is a limited unrest in holiday areas so far and some flights to regional airports may be able to go ahead, a spokesman for Cordenon said. The company currently has some 5,000 holidaymakers in Turkey.
Transavia cancelled all its morning flights to Turkey but said Saturday afternoon flights would go ahead, the Telegraaf reported.
Hundreds of holidaymakers have been stranded at Schiphol and other Dutch airports after their flights were cancelled or delayed, the paper said.
The foreign ministry has urged Dutch nationals in Turkey to stay in their hotels and has set up a 24/7 phone number + 31 247 247 247 for updated travel advice.
The ministry’s home page on Turkey is being constantly revised, news agency ANP said. In particular, people travelling in the south of the country are being urged to stay indoors.
