European security services work more closely together
Officials from 30 European security services have been meeting in the Netherlands on a weekly basis to exchange information about terrorism, the Volkskrant said on Wednesday.
The meetings have been underway for several months and mark an intensification of international efforts to get a grip on terrorism, the paper said. It bases its claims on people close to the cabinet.
The meetings are being held on the initiative of the Dutch security service AIVD, which chaired the European Counter Terrorism Group (CTG) until July 1.
Until the Paris terrorist attacks last November there was no structured sharing of information between security services, the paper said.
Home affairs minister Ronald Plasterk said in June: ‘Over the past months… the CTG has made enormous strides in intensifying cooperation [between members]. Information about European foreign fighters is now available for all the services.’
