Despite the current sunshine and high temperatures, King’s Day is set to be chilly and wet, and there could even be sleet and hail, weather forecasters say.

The weather is set to turn over the weekend and it will be much cooler with showers and some thunderstorms.

All weather bureaus agree the prospects for April 27 are gloomy. On King’s Night, the evening before the street party, the temperature is set to drop to as low as 3 degrees in places. During the day itself, it will be no more than 9 degrees.

‘The only thing which might change [between now and then] is the amount of rain,’ Weerplaza meteorologist Raymond Klaassen told website Nu.nl. ‘But it will be cold. There is no doubt about that.’

Thousands of outdoor events are scheduled to take place across the country on King’s Day.
