Roads busy due to border checks, train services to Brussels resume
People travelling from Belgium to the Netherlands on Wednesday are being warned of long delays at the border as military police carry out checks on people entering the Netherlands.
On Tuesday night, tailbacks reached up to 35 kilometres. The A4 from Antwerp and E315 from Leuven were particularly busy, the traffic information service VID said.
The border controls will be carried out ‘as long as necessary’, Dutch police said using Twitter.
There are also likely jams for drivers from the Netherlands heading for Germany, where border controls have also been stepped up.
Meanwhile, train services between the Netherlands and Belgium are being slowly resumed on Wednesday and the first intercity and Thalys high-speed trains have already left.
Passengers are being advised to check train times before departure and can book for a later date free of charge, the NS said.
