Dutch businessman Koen Everink, who was found dead at his home in Bilthoven last week, was stabbed to death, police said on Tuesday.

Everink, who made his fortune from the travel industry, was killed some time on Thursday night or early Friday morning, the Telegraaf says. Police found his body shortly before 9am on Friday after neighbours were alerted by his daughter’s screams.

According to the Volkskrant, his Porsche has been taken away for forensic examination.

It is unclear from the media reports if anyone else lived in the house. According to Quote magazine, Everink was divorced and had one child.

Everink, 42, set up the Eliza Was Here travel agency and sold his shares in 2012. The following year Quote estimated his worth at €15 million.

The businessman hit the headlines in 2012 when he was badly beaten by kickboxer Badr Hari during the Sensation dance event in Amsterdam. Hari was later sentenced to two years in jail for the attack on Everink and other incidents.
