Dutch jobless total hits lowest level since 2012
The number of jobless people in the Netherlands fell below 600,000 for the first time since 2012 in December, the national statistics office CBS said on Thursday.
The drop took the official unemployment rate to 6.6%, or 588,000 people. In December 2014, the jobless rate was 7.2%.
At the same time, the number of people claiming unemployment benefit (ww) in December rose 1.1% to 446,000. The increase was due to job losses in the retail, hotel and catering and education sectors. In construction, the number of unemployment claims fell 25%.
Over 2015 as a whole, there was an overall decline in jobless benefit claims, the CBS said.
