D66 want to remove God from new Dutch laws
The Liberal democratic party D66 is campaigning to have references to God removed from new laws, RTL news says on Friday.
The phrase ‘by the grace of God’, which is used when a new law is signed by the monarch, contravenes the division between church and state, the party says.
‘Sovereignty in the Netherlands lies with the people not a God,’ D66 parliamentarian Stientje van Veldhoven is quoted as saying. She has submitted draft legislation removing the phrase to parliament and expects to win majority support.
