Dutch reach deal to deport Albanians more quickly
The Netherlands has reached a deal with the Albanian authorities to deport illegal Albanian immigrants in large groups by specially chartered planes, broadcaster Nos says on Friday.
The plan was agreed during a meeting between officials from the Dutch deportation service and Albanian officials in Tirana. The agreement means the deportation service can deport illegal Albanian nationals more quickly because it will not have to rely on regular flights.
Some 750 Albanians have claimed asylum in the Netherlands in the past four months, Nos says. None of the 1,000 Albanian nationals who tried to claim refugee status in the Netherlands last year was granted a permit.
Immigration minister Klaas Dijkhoff told parliament Albania is considered a safe country, which means its nationals can be deported more quickly.
