A small Dutch right-wing religious party wants the public television and radio companies to stop broadcasting advertising for a website that encourages couples to cheat on each other.

Kees van der Staaij, head of the fundamentalist Protestant party SGP, says advertising companies like Second Love is encouraging divorce and damaging families. The SGP has three seats in the 150-seat Dutch parliament.

In addition, the public broadcasters should not be generating income from advertising this sort of website, he said. ‘Every divorce [a ban] can prevent is pure profit for the children who are the victims,’ he said on Radio 1 news.

The SGP, which opposes gay rights and thinks women should not become involved in politics, has also submitted a complaint to the advertising standards authority, news agency ANP said.
