Six flats collapse after Sunday night’s explosion in Drachten
Six apartments in a low block of flats in Drachten in Friesland have collapsed in the wake of an explosion shortly before midnight on Sunday, council officials said on Monday.
The rest of the building remains at risk of collapse, officials said. One person was injured in the original blast.
Other residents were all taken to safety before the collapse and the street has been sealed off. Nine people were taken to emergency accommodation and others spent the night with family and friends.
The source of the explosion on the ground floor of the complex has not yet been determined.
