Gold medal sprinter Dafne Schippers is Dutch sportswoman of the year
World champion sprinter Dafne Schippers has been chosen as Dutch sportswoman of the year, the first athlete to take the title since Ellen van Langen in 1992.
Schippers, 23, took the 200 metres gold medal in the world championships in Beijing this year, as well as silver in the 100 metre event. She also won gold in the 60 metres indoor at the European championships in Prague.
The men’s title went to short track speed skater Sjinkie Knegt, who took the world 3,000 metre title in Moscow this year and the European title for the second year in a row.
The team of the year award went to the beach volleyball duo Reinder Nummerdor and Christiaan Verenhoest, who won the silver medal at the world championships in The Hague.
