Almost seven in 10 Dutch students live at home
Almost 68% of students at Dutch vocational colleges and universities were still living at home this January, compared with just over 60% in January 2012, according to figures from student loan company DUO, quoted by website Nu.nl.
However, there are wide variations between different types of education, the figures show and mbo students, who tend to be younger, are most likely to live at home.
Some 65% of university students live in rooms or a student house, as do 53% of hbo college students. The Rietveld art school in Amsterdam has most live-out students at 89%.
The slight rise in the number of students living away from home may be accounted for by the decision to scrap grants, Nu.nl says. Since September students who live away from home no longer receive extra money to help pay for their accommodation.
