Eredivisie weekend round up: Top three win to take control
Ajax, Feyenoord and PSV move clear at the top, Heracles slip up, De Graafschap victory leaves Cambuur alone in the search for three points, while FC Utrecht pay fitting tribute to David di Tomasso, writes Neil Adderley.
Cambuur Leeuwarden 2 v 3 De Graafschap: Superboeren claim dramatic first win of the season
It has taken four months and 14 Eredivisie games, but De Graafschap have finally secured a first win of the 2015/16 season.
Goals from Cas Peters, Bart Straalman and a stunning Karim Tarfi free kick, not only ended an uneviable winless run, it left opponent Cambuur as the only team in the division without a victory.
The visitors raced into a two goal lead, only for Cambuur to hit back through Sjoerd Overgoor and a Nathanial Will own goal.
And when Robin Propper collected a second yellow card for dissent, it seemed Cambuur would complete the comeback and take all the points.
However, when De Graafschap were awarded an 88th minute free kick, Karim Tarfi stepped up to rifle the ball past keeper Leonard Nienhuis, and seal a remarkable first Eredivisie victory for the newly promoted Superboeren.
Heerenveen 3 v 0 Roda JC: Heerenveen cruise past struggling Roda
Roda arrived in Friesland on a desperate run of form, however Heerenveen showed no mercy as they cruised to a simple 30 win at the Abe Lenstra stadium.
The hosts dominated from the first whistle yet had to wait 30 minutes before Mitchell te Vrede opened the scoring.
The lead was doubled, and the points virtually sealed before the break, as Luciano Slagveer found the top corner with a beautiful finish.
Struggling Roda failed to test the Heerenveen defence throughout, and any faint hope of a fightback was
extinguished when te Vrede claimed his second, and Heerenveen’s third from the penalty spot.
Excelsior 2 v 4 Feyenoord: Derby win keeps Feyenoord within 3 points of leaders Ajax
Michiel Kramer hit a hat trick as Feyenoord eventually ran out comfortable winners in the Rotterdam derby.
The hosts got off to a nightmare start as Dirk Kuyt opened the scoring for Feyenoord after just 66 seconds.
Excelsior fans must have feared the worst when Kramer doubled the lead on the half hour, but the home side pushed forward and halved the deficit before the break through Daryl Van Mieghem.
The second half saw Excelsior push for an equaliser, only for Kramer to take advantage of poor marking to head home a Rick Karsdorp cross.
And Kramer completed his hat trick on 71 minutes after pouncing on a woeful Adil Auassar pass back before slipping the ball passed Excelsior keeper Tom Muyters.
Tom van Weert scored a late consolation for the hosts, but Feyenoord comfortably played out the last four minutes to claim a deserved derby victory.
FC Twente 1 v 3 Willem II: Anderson hat trick compounds FC Twente misery
Crisis club FC Twente suffered a fifth defeat on the bounce thanks to a Lucas Andersen hat trick.
The Ajax loanee, finally showing his class in Willem II colours with three stunning first half goals, piled yet more misery on the embattled Enschede club.
With yet more off the field financial investigations, and the possibility of the club losing its professional licence being reported, another poor performance sees Twente drop into the bottom three and fighting for its Eredivisie status.
Vitesse 1 v 0 NEC Nijmegen: Vitesse triumph in Gelderse derby
A 40th minute Valeri Qazaishvili goal was enough for Vitesse to beat NEC in a tight Gelderse derby.
The hosts dominated the early possession but failed to create any real opportunities, and it was NEC, through Anthony Limbombe and Chelsea loanee Todd Kane, who came closest to breaking the derby deadlock.
However, just as it seemed the teams would go into the break all square, Qazaishvili turned his marker before firing home an angled drive.
NEC pushed to level matters in the second period with both Navarone Foor and Christian Santos coming close, but Vitesse held firm to claim the derby bragging rights.
PEC Zwolle 0 v 2 Ajax: League leaders march on with deserved win
Goals from Amin Younes and substitute Thulani Serero finally ended a five game winless run for Ajax against PEC.
The visitors wasted a host of first half opportunities before a terrible misjudgement by PEC keeper Kevin Begois allowed Youness a tap in on 37 minutes.
Ajax’ domination continued in the second period, with keeper Jasper Cillessen rarely called into action, and
Frank de Boer’s side eventually sealed a routine victory when Serero slotted past Begois on 87 minutes.
Groningen 2 v 1 ADO Den Haag: Hoesen late shows hands Groningen the spoils
A 95th minute Danny Hoesen winner at a wind swept Euroborg moved Groningen up to sixth place in the Eredivisie table.
Both teams struggled with the conditions, and while Groningen created a number of half chances, it was French midfielder Edouard Duplan who gave ADO a first half lead.
The score was level on 49 minutes as a double ricochet in the six yard box eventually found the net from the knee of unlucky ADO defender Tom Beugelsdijk.
With the game seemingly bound for a draw, Groningen pumped in a last minute free kick, and substitute Danny Hoesen popped up to tap home from a yard to secure all the points for the home side.
FC Utrecht 4 v 2 Heracles: Stunning second half performance from ten man Utrecht a fitting tribute to David di Tommaso
It was ten years to the day since Utrecht’s French defender David di Tommaso died after a cardiac arrest in his sleep. He was just 26 years of age.
With fans of both clubs paying a prematch tribute to di Tommaso, emotions were running high, and the atmosphere seemed to affect both sets of players in a largely flat first period.
However, the game changed on 40 minutes when Ilias Bel Hassani opened the scoring for the visitors.
And the travelling Heracles supporters were given more reason to celebrate when Utrecht defender Kevin Conboy was shown a second yellow card before the break.
Despite being a goal and a man down, Utrecht sprung out of the second half traps, and found themselves ahead within three remarkable minutes of the restart.
Nacer Barazite, ran the Heracles defence ragged and twice found the net to send the home supporters wild.
The striker firstly finishing off a lightning quick team goal, before smashing a near post shot into the roof of the net.
The joy however was short lived as Oussama Tannane equalised for Heracles with a superb curling strike.
Despite the setback, ten man Utrecht continued to push Heracles back, and deservedly regained the lead as Sebastian Haller found space in the visitors box to nod home a 84th minute free kick.
And just three minutes later the French striker claimed his second and Utrecht’s fourth, to round off a memorable and emotional afternoon for all connected to the club.
PSV Eindhoven 3 v 0 AZ Alkmaar: Champions keep contenders within reaching distance with comfortable win
A Luuk de Jong double and a Derrick Luckassen own goal kept PSV within sight of nearest rivals Feyenoord and Ajax.
It was an afternoon to forget for AZ, and in particular defender Luckassen, who after giving PSV the lead with
an own goal, would eventually see red for an elbow on PSV captain Luuk de Jong.
And it was striker de Jong, with his 12th and 13th goals of the season, who would seal victory for the reigning champions.
A comfortable win for PSV sees them open up a gap of five points on fourth placed Heracles, while keeping Feyenoord and Ajax within four points at the top of the table.
