Cabinet completes mini reshuffle, Martijn van Dam to economic affairs
King Willem-Alexander will swear in two new junior ministers on Tuesday evening: Sharon Dijksma at the infrastructure ministry and Martijn van Dam to replace Dijksma at economic affairs.
The reshuffle follows the resignation of junior infrastructure minister Wilma Mansveld following the publication of a damning report on the high-speed train service from Amsterdam to Brussels.
It is not yet clear if Dijksma will take over Mansveld’s entire portfolio, which was described as unfairly difficult compared with that of the minister Melanie Schultz.
Dijksma is a career politician for the Labour party and was the youngest MP in Dutch parliamentary history when elected in 1994 at the age of 23.
Van Dam, an engineer by profession who worked for Philips for a time, has been a Labour MP since 2003.
