Big three health insurance companies announce price rises
Three of the big four health insurance companies – Menzis, CZ and Ohra – on Tuesday said health insurance will cost a few euros a month more from next year.
CZ is putting up the price of its standard policy by €4.45 to €104.95. Menzis has opted for an increase of €2.75, increasing the price of its standard policy to €107. Ohra’s basic policy is going up from €100.74 to €105.37.
Health insurance companies always publish their new premiums in November, ahead of the six week transfer window in which people can change insurer.
In addition, everyone will have to pay the first €385 of their treatment next year, a rise of €10 on 2015.
All the health insurance companies offer lower premiums for policies which offer patients less choice about where they are treated. They also offer discounts if people increase their own risk payment to up to a maximum of €885.
According to comparison websites, the difference in premium price between the cheapest policy and most expensive is now around €200 a year.
The government said in August it expected the cost of a basic policy to rise an average of €7 to around €103 a month next year. With healthcare benefits set to rise to €67 a month, this means people on low incomes will effectively pay €36 a month for basic coverage without dentistry.
Around one million people are expected to change health insurers during the transfer window.
