Support for anti-Islam PVV reaches an all-time high
Support for the anti-immigration PVV has reached an all-time high, according to the latest poll of polls carried out for broadcaster Nos.
The poll, based on an aggregate of five other opinion surveys, says the PVV would win between 33 and 37 seats in the 150-seat parliament if there were a general election tomorrow. This is a rise of six seats on a month ago.
The result means Geert Wilders’ party now has the support of up to 25% of the population. The PVV has 15 seats in the current parliament.
Compiler Tom Louwerse told Nos that such sharp rises are very unusual in the poll of polls because it uses the results of several different surveys. The rise in PVV support has flattened off in the previous two weeks, he said, which could indicate the party has now peaked.
The increase in PVV support would appear to be at the expense of the Socialists and right-wing Liberal VVD, both of which have lost support.
French poll
Meanwhile, a survey carried out by the French polling institute Ifop indicates that 92% of the Dutch think refugees should be sent home as soon as possible.
Ifop looked at attitudes to refugees in Denmark, France, Britain, Italy, Germany and Spain as well as the Netherlands.
The survey found that almost two-thirds of the Dutch, French and Italians think their countries are so full that there is no more room for refugees.
The Dutch were also least likely to want to donate money to help refugees (77% said no) or put up a refugee in their home (96% said no), the Parool reports. In Spain, for example, 42% were prepared to donate money to help.
The results are based on a survey of just over 1,000 people in each country.
