Vitesse supporters want compensation for wrongful arrest
At least ten supporters of Vitesse football club are seeking compensation for ‘wrongful arrest’ following the Vitesse-Southampton Europa league match last week.
Around 70 football fans, mainly Vitesse supporters, were arrested in Arnhem on August 6 when trouble broke out before the game.
Lawyer Christian Visser told broadcaster Omroep Gelderland there was no legal basis for the arrests.
‘The police could have asked everyone for their ID card and used camera footage to see who was involved,’ he said. ‘Now everyone has been arrested whether they were involved or not.’
