A man who fell into the water while visiting the maritime event SAIL on Friday evening was pronounced dead on Saturday afternoon.

The 23-year-old fell from the quay on the Sumatrakade around 22.15. The police are still investigating what caused him to fall.

Fire service divers pulled him from the water and reanimated him, the NRC says.

He was then taken to hospital where he died on Saturday.

SAIL organisers said they were ‘deeply shocked’ at the incident, but that the programme for the event will continue unchanged.
