Dutch take seven silvers at world swimming championships
The Dutch team are bringing back eight silver but no gold or bronze medals from the world swimming championships in Kazan, Russia.
Ranomi Kromowidjojo took silver in the 50 metres freestyle on the final day of the event on Sunday to complete the medal haul. The Netherlands ended in 16th place in the medal table.
After the race, Kromowidjojo said the silver was a ‘good starting point’ to defend her Olympic title in Brazil next year.
Other silver medal winners included the women’s water polo team, who lost to the US in the final.
Sharon van Rouwendaal and Ferry Weertman took silver in the women’s and men’s 10 kilometre open water events. Both were part of the three-person team to take silver in the five kilometre mixed open water event.
