Heracles football club sets up stadium section for female fans
Almelo football club Heracles is dedicating several hundred seats in its revamped stadium to female supporters, local newspaper Tubantia reports on Friday.
The idea for the LadiesSeats section was developed after the Dutch football association KNVB discovered Heracles has more female season ticket-holders than other clubs, the paper says.
Chairman Jan Smit told Tubantia female supporters often ask if they can sit together ‘to create a distinctive atmosphere’.
The LadiesSeats section looks like the rest of the stadium but female fans will be given occasional access to the business club so they can ‘have a glass of wine’. They will also be given front row seats if the club organises fashion shows, Smit said.
According to the club’s website, the seats will also be close to the toilets and catering facilities.
The new-look stadium will be revealed on August 16 for the club’s Eredivisie match against NEC.
