Escaped psychiatric prison detainee arrested at Spanish port
A 23-year-old Amsterdam man who escaped from a psychiatric institution in Den Dolder two weeks ago has been arrested in the southern Spanish port of Algeciras.
An international warrant had been issued for Ali Benhadi and police earlier raided several homes in Amsterdam in their hunt for him.
Benhadi was found during a routine check in the night of Saturday to Sunday, the Telegraaf says. There is a ferry service from the port to Tangiers in Morocco.
Benhadi was undergoing anti-aggression therapy in the Den Dolder clinic and was due to be released from jail in November.
He was sentenced to three years in jail last September after being caught with two others in a stolen car heading for Arnhem. In the car, police found guns, disguises and claw hammers.
One of his brothers is serving a life sentence for his role in a multiple gangland killing in Amsterdam at the end of 2013.
