Six civil servants will be prosecuted for corrupton in the purchase of vehicles for police and defence personnel.

The six, two from the police department and four from the defence ministry, are accused of taking bribes from the vehicle suppliers, the NRC reports.

The case against two others has been dismissed for lack of evidence.

In all, 47 civil servants and vehicle salesmen are suspects in the case. The civil servants are accused of leasing cars cheaply, getting reductions on maintenance and having the use of petrol station passes.

Some of them received foreign trips, including Mediterranian cruises, the public prosecutor says, according to the NRC.

The purchasing order concerns 1,667 Volkswagen Amaroks for the defence ministry and 1,330 cars and vans for the police each year.

The decision on whether to prosecute the other suspects will be made ‘within the foreseeable future’, the public prosecutor said.
