Belgium has revoked the residence permit of a Moroccan-Dutch radical imam, Belgian media report on Tuesday.

It is the first time the country has taken such action.

The imam lives in Dison in Luik province and has been under surveillance by Belgian police for some time. He is said to be active in radical circles around Verviers where two suspected terrorists were shot dead by police in January.

It is not known where the imam will go, but he is likely to return to the Netherlands, according to press reports.

He can still appeal the decision.
