Minister under fire yet again over personal care payments
Tens of thousands of people with a personal care budget are still waiting for payments despite government assurances that the worst of the backlog should now be cleared.
Junior health minister Martin van Rijn is due to update parliament on Thursday on the measures being taken to speed up payments and political pundits say he may end up facing a no-confidence motion.
It is the sixth time the minister has been called to parliament to discuss the issue, website Nu.nl reports.
Since the beginning of this year, the social insurance bank SVB has been charged with paying for care services directly to the care providers. Since then, it has ‘rained complaints’, Nu.nl says.
Thousands of carers have not been paid and have been forced to borrow money to survive.
In particular, MPs want to know what sort of ‘sample’ was used to determine that 94% of ‘correctly filled in claims’ have been paid within five to 10 working days.
