Two people killed as lightning strikes Dutch park (update)
Two women have been killed in a lightning strike at a park in Amersfoort, Dutch media report on Wednesday afternoon.
Emergency service workers tried to resuscitate the women, who were thought to have been sheltering under a tree, but they were declared dead at the scene. Both the women and the tree were hit by lightning, news agency ANP said.
The KNMI weather bureau issued a code yellow weather warning for the entire country on Wednesday because of the risk of sudden cloudbursts, coupled with winds of up to 90 kph.
The KMNI said one or two people die in the Netherlands every year after being hit by lightning.
