Dutch raise €19m for Nepal relief effort, gov’t donates an extra €5m
The Dutch have donated almost €19m to the relief effort following the Nepal earthquake two weeks ago through a variety of fund-raising projects, news agency ANP said at the weekend.
The money has been paid into the Giro555 account which is used to collect donations for international relief projects during a week-long appeal.
The total is likely to be higher after Saturday night’s advertising blitz on the public broadcasters which ends the week-long campaign. Newspapers have also donated space for the appeal, ANP said.
Meanwhile, aid minister Lilianne Ploumen said at the weekend the Netherlands will donate a further €5m towards rebuilding the country. This money will be spent via the UN’s food programme.
Earlier the Netherlands donated €4m towards emergency shelters, healthcare and food aid.
