Dutch music industry declines yet again, vinyl makes a come back
Turnover in the Dutch music industry fell by 1.3% in 2014 to €128m, sector organisation NVPI announced on Tuesday.
Turnover in the sector comes increasingly from streaming services such as Spotify, Deezer and Google Play, the NVPI said. Turnover from these services rose 17.2% to €43.7m.
In comparison, sales from downloads fell nearly 10% to €14m. Turnover in physical music, mainly on cds, fell 8.9% to €69.4m.
However, vinyl made a come-back with sales increasing from €7m in 2013 to €8m last year. This makes the old-fashioned gramophone record responsible for 11.5% of the total physical market.
Turnover in the Dutch music industry has been declining for the past 13 years.
