VVD councillor under investigation in drugs case: Telegraaf
A town councillor for the right-wing Liberal VVD has been remanded in custody for two weeks in connection with an investigation into money laundering and marijuana cultivation, the Telegraaf says on Friday.
Kathalijne de Kruif sits on the town council in Maarssen, near Utrecht. She was arrested last week and is barred from contact with anyone but her lawyer, the paper says.
Telephone taps have shown that she passed on secret information about the Maarssen mayor’s function to a senior party official, the paper says. Sources also say she is involved in an investigation into money laundering and marijuana plantations.
De Kruif, 43, is married and has two children. She is separated from her partner although they continue to work in the same office, the paper says.
