Train services in chaos around Utrecht after signals failure

Conductor getting in a train ready to start in The Hague, the NetherlandsTrain services to and from Utrecht were disrupted on Monday morning because of a major signaling and points failure.

The problems also mean there are no trains to Amersfoort, Amsterdam and Schiphol airport from Utrecht, Dutch railway operator NS said.

The chaos is also having a knock-on effect on train services in other areas.

Buses are being used to move passengers where possible, particularly on busy commuter routes.

The NS is also warning passengers that travel information on station matrix boards may be wrong

‘It is a logistics puzzle to get train services up and running normally again,’ the NS statement said. ‘Intercity services will have priority.’
