Three Dutch clubs in Europa League action
Three Dutch football clubs are in European action on Thursday night. Ajax take on Legia Warsaw, Feyenoord meet AS Roma and PSV play FC Zenit in the round of 32 in the Europa League.
The last time the three traditionally top Dutch clubs made it through to the knock-out rounds of the European competition was in the 2004/2005 season. They also all made it twice in the 1990s.
Ajax coach Frank de Boer told a news conference it is important for the three clubs to do well. ‘We have to ensure we move further on in the tournament,’ he said. ‘It is very important for Dutch football.’
Legia Warsaw are Poland’s reigning champions and current league leader and will meet Ajax in Amsterdam. PSV Eindhoven has travelled to Rome for its meeting with the Serie A number two. Zenit is current Russian league leader and is travelling to Rotterdam for tonight’s tie.
