Police evict protesting students from Amsterdam university building
Police on Tuesday evicted students from Amsterdam university building the Bunge Huis.
The students are demanding more democracy and transparency from the university authorities, and began their sit-in 11 days ago.
They are also protesting at the sale of the Bunge Huis, which is being sold by the university to property developer Aedes Real Estate.
According to reports in the university magazine Folia, the police arrived at 09.30 on Tuesday and entered the building through a side window. They told the students to leave or be arrested. Several students promptly left the building. Those that remained have now been arrested, according to Folia.
News agency ANP said on Tuesday afternoon at least 46 students and one lecturer had been arrested.
Five student organisations have now called for a protest march on Tuesday evening, ANP said.
