Sven Kramer and Ireen Wüst take European allround speed skating titles – again
Title favourites Sven Kramer and Ireen Wüst were crowned European allround speed skating champions in Chelyabinsk, Russia on Sunday.
It was Kramer’s seventh European title and Wüst’s fourth. Both were defending title holders.
Kramer faced unexpected and strong competition from Koen Verweij in the 10,000 metres and said later he was disappointed by his performance in the 500 and 1,500 metres. Verweij took silver in the competition while Denis Yuskov of Russia was third.
Wüst’s biggest rival, Martina Sábliková of the Czech Republic, took silver in the women’s event and Linda de Vries of the Netherlands was third.
The men’s competition involves races of 500m, 1,500m, 5km and 10km; the women’s 500m, 1,500m, 3km and 5km.
