Dutch short animated film A Single Life wins Oscar nomination
The Dutch short animation film A Single Life has been nominated for an Oscar.
A Single Life, directed by Joris Oprins, is about a girl called Pia who plays a mysterious record and is taken back into her past life.
It was produced as part of a special project known as Ultrakort by the Dutch Film Fund and the Pathe cinema group.
In total, 85 films were nominated for the Oscar.
The team behind the film, which also includes Job Roggeveen en Marieke Blaauw, now plan to go to Los Angeles to try and make sure as many people as possible see their production.
‘We’ve been offered a tour of LA to visit all the big animation studios and tell them about our work,’ Oprins told broadcaster Nos. ‘But that has been organised by a commercial company so I don’t know if we can trust it. Perhaps we should just organise something ourselves.’
The film has been seen by over 1.5 million people in the Netherlands, partly due to its inclusion in the pre-programme for box office success Gooische Vrouwen 2.
Another Dutch animated short film, Father and Daughter by Michael Dudok de Wit, won the Oscar in 2000.
The Oscar ceremony takes place on February 22.
