Over one million more visitors for Dutch museums in 2014
The number of people visiting the bigger Dutch museums rose by 8% this year – or over one million people, the NRC said on Wednesday.
The newspaper analysed information from 50 of the country’s museums, including all the major ones, and found they were visited 16.3 million times in 2014.
Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum topped the list with 2.45 million visitors in its first full year since the 2013 reopening. Renovations also boosted visitor numbers at the Fries Museum and the Kunsthal in Rotterdam.
The Mauritshuis in The Hague, which reopened just before the summer, has had 332,000 visitors since then – a sharp increase on like for like periods in previous years, the NRC said.
