King’s Christmas speech goes commercial
The king’s traditional Christmas speech will be broadcast live and in full on two commercial stations this year rather than just on public broadcaster Nos.
An agreement was reached on Thursday, following talks with the state information service RVD, that Willem-Alexander’s speech will also appear on RTL4 and SBS6.
The king broke with tradition last Christmas by being filmed sitting by an open fire in his home in Wassenaar. This was in contrast to his mother, Beatrix, who was always shown sitting behind a table in the Huis ten Bosch palace.
The king’s speech will be broadcast on December 25 at 13.00 hours.
