IJsselmeer wind turbine loses blades
A wind turbine on the IJsselmeer lake near Medemblik has lost both its blades but it is not clear what caused them to fall off, energy company Nuon said on Friday.
No one was injured in the incident and the blades are thought to have disappeared under the surface of the water.
‘The turbine is one of four on a 200-metre stretch of dyke,’ a spokesman said. ‘It would appear the whole head of the turbine has come off.’
The company will start an investigation on Saturday into what caused the the machine head and turbines to fall off, news agency ANP said. The spokesman declined to say if a construction error or metal fatigue could be responsible.
