Book retailer AKO stops sponsoring €50,000 literature prize
Book and newspaper retail group AKO is to stop sponsoring the biggest Dutch literature prize from next year.
The prize, worth €50,000 a year, will be sponsored from 2015 by the ECI webshop and book club organisation.
‘We have sponsored the prize for 25 years and now we are ending that,’ AKO director Sjaak Mark said, while denying the decision is a cost-cutting measure.
The Libris Literatuur prize, awarded in May, is the other major Dutch book prize.
