14 Dutch whistleblowers contact US authorities
Fourteen Dutch whistleblowers have contacted the US authorities over the past four years, according to a report from the US National Whistleblowers Center published on Tuesday.
How much they were paid and what crimes were involved is not included in the report in order to protect the sources, the Financieele Dagblad reports.
Since early 2011 over 1,000 whistleblowers from 82 countries have contacted the US authorities, the report says. The Netherlands with 14 whistleblowers is in 15th place together with France and Brazil.
Top of the list is Canada with 167 whistleblowers, followed by the UK (149) and China (121).
Whistleblowers are paid in the US but not in the Netherlands. However, the Dutch government is currently working on a new law which would allow whistleblowers who lose their jobs to be paid their salary for a still to be decided period.
