Dutch lose 2-3 to Mexico in pre-European Cup friendly
The Netherlands lost 2-3 to Mexico in Wednesday night’s friendly ahead of their crucial European qualifier against Latvia on Sunday.
It was the fourth defeat in Oranje’s last five matches, having beaten Mexico at their last meeting in the round of 16 at the World Cup when the Dutch team went on to finish third.
The Netherlands are currently third in Group A and have lost to both the Czech Republic and Iceland. They need to beat Latvia to stay in the competition.
Coach Guus Hiddink, who took over from Louis van Gaal after the World Cup, has already said he will resign if Oranje lose Sunday’s key match.
