Driving instructor jailed for calling for ‘zombie Zionists’ to be shot
A man who placed a video online in which he described Zionists as zombies and said ‘these zombies should be shot dead’ before shooting in the air several times, has been jailed for 60 days, 44 suspended, the Telegraaf said on Wednesday.
The 35-year-old placed the video on his driving school’s Facebook page. It was later removed by Facebook for incorporating hate speech.
The public prosecutor had called for a 45-day jail term, 28 suspended and 80 hours community service. The department had also called for the man to be banned from using Facebook.
The man told the court earlier he had made the film while in Turkey during the summer because he was angry about the Israeli army operating in the Gaza strip. He was arrested at Schiphol airport in August.
The court ruled the man had been attempting to encourage others to take part in violence, the Telegraaf said. Although the court did not believe the man would actually start murdering people, his explicit call for action did break the boundaries of freedom of speech.
